Batère Shelter

Capacity: 17 places in dormitories on the ground floor (one with 8 + 2 showers and the other with 9 + showers), 20 places in double rooms on the upper floor (2 to 4 beds, with two showers in the hallway) and between 4 and 6 extra beds.
Information:
Located at an altitude of 1,470 m, in the legendary Canigó massif, classified as a Great Site of France, this old building that in the past served as housing for the miners who extracted the iron, has now been converted into a rural house and inn. It offers impressive views of the Alt Vallespir relief and southern Catalonia, and you can also see the Mediterranean. The refuge, accessible by road, faces south and is bordered by a coniferous forest. Located a few hundred meters from summer pastures where sheep, horses and cows roam freely. Wildlife is also present around the peaks and in the rocky areas. Birds of prey, marmots and chamois can be regularly observed. You can also visit an exhibition on the Batera mines, created at the initiative of the former guards.
It has two large bedrooms on the ground floor, with 8 and 9 beds respectively, with 2 showers per room. 7 double rooms (2 to 4 beds) on the upper floor, with 2 showers in the hallway and between 4 and 6 extra beds (sofa, bed, mattress, cot).
